Super Eagles’ and Arsenal FC of England star, Alex Iwobi believes the tactical brilliance of Head Coach, Gernot Rohr and the unity among the players, was key to the team’s unbeaten run.
Iwobi, who spoke to AOIFootball.com exclusively after the Nigeria stunned two-time world champions Argentina in Russia, said he believes the team can only get better in the future.
“As you can see, we played collectively in all the six games in the qualifiers; we fought together, the chemistry was good, and our tactics were spot-on all through the qualifiers.
“I must admit the qualifiers were a bit difficult, but I will say the underdog card propelled us to victory at the end of the day,” Iwobi said.
The prolific youngster, who was in superb form against Argentina on Tuesday, scoring two goals, also revealed that the quality, competition and depth of players in the national team is amazing and the game against Algeria showed “we are not a one-man team”.
“You can see the competition in the squad is so strong. It shows that we are not just about a few players, we are a very good side collectively and it stood out for us all through the qualifiers.
“The World Cup is still a couple of months away and I believe with quality of friendlies and adequate preparations, Nigeria will shock the world come 2018,” Iwobi concluded.
