Nigeria Professional Football League 2016/2017 top scorer, Anthony Okpotu has said the Home- based players must work hard to be called into the final 23 that will represent the country at next year’s World Cup in Russia.
Speaking to AOIFootball.com, the Lobi Stars of Makurdi goal poacher, maintained that, though it would be fair to have one or two slots for the home-based players, they on the other hand must work hard to earn a slot.
“I think the home-based players deserve a chance at the World Cup. But I know we must work hard to earn a place, especially with the very quality players available around the team. We have very top players also in the NPFL, so we hope the national team handlers give us a look-in,” he said.
Only former FC Ifeanyi Ubah shot stopper Ikechukwu Ezenwa has maintained a consistent presence in Gernot Rohr’s squad since the Franco-German took charge of the team in July 2016.
