Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has said all Shanghai Shenhua striker, Obafemi Martins needs to do is to continue scoring to have a chance to make the team’s World Cup squad, AOIFootball.com can report.
Rohr told Kwesesports, that though the team possesses very good forwards, if the former Newcastle man maintains his scoring form for his club, he would give him a chance as he looks to increase his options upfront.
“Yes, the door is open to all our best players, including Martins. He is scoring a lot of goals and we need to get competition for all the positions, especially at the centre-forward.
“For now, we have Kelechi Iheanacho, who is not playing all the time. But we played with Kelechi against Argentina and he did well.
“Then Anthony Nwakaeme also did well against Algeria and Odion Ighalo, who is injured now, did very well against Cameroon. But we have also other players, like the young boy Victor Osimhen, and we have to look everywhere.
“We have a lot of opportunities for the strikers, and so Martins, if he is scoring goals, will be welcome,” Rohr said.
Martins last featured for the Super Eagles under former coach Sunday Oliseh. The former Inter Milan forward has scored 18 times in 41 appearances for the three-time African champions.
