Portuguese giants, Benfica have joined the race to land Nigerian midfielder, Joel Obi from Seria A club, Torino, can confirm.
The Turin-based club are willing to listen to offers matching the player’s valuation as they look to ease their risen wage bill.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, his performances have attracted the attention of the Portuguese champions.
The Italian daily states that the Lisbon side will formally submit a bid for the midfielder, who has also been linked with Spanish club Deportivo La Coruña, on Monday.
Obi came through the ranks at Inter and began his senior career with the Nerazzurri before joining Toro in 2015.
Meanwhile Obi was among the goals in Torino’s 3-0 bashing against Benevento in the Italian Serie A.

The Nigerian midfielder Joel Obi made it two goals in his last two Serie A games for Torino who thrashed visiting 10-man Benevento 3-0 on Sunday.

Obi was also on target last Sunday when Torino held Sassuolo to a 1-1 away draw in the league.

The Nigerian international now has four goals and two assists from 16 appearances so far this season.
