The former Watford striker, who spoke to exclusively from his base in China, said the season is less than a week away and he and his teammates want to better their last season’s performance.

“These are defining moments for every player that wants to play at the biggest stage. Last season was good for me, but I believe I have what it takes to even do better. I just want to be in good shape before the World Cup,” Ighalo concluded.

Ighalo and Changchun will open their season campaign away to the club of fellow Nigerian Obafemi Martins’ Shanghai Shenhua next Friday.
