Nigeria’s U-17 male national team, the Golden Eaglets are set to begin their journey under a world cup-winning coach Manu Garba, with the scouting coach of the team saying that football agents are central to football development.

Bunmi Haruna, a CAF B Licence coach appointed as the scouting coach of the team revealed to the importance of footballer recruiters formerly known as football agents, contrary to the opinion of the average Nigerian football followers who would that football agents don’t come close to any national team.

Quashing the opinion, Haruna argued being that is the fulcrum for grassroots football development.

“Without agents football will not be where it is today because a lot of the agents have invested in football.

“They go to the grassroots to pick these players and provide basic needs for them but the fact remains that there is not going to be favour for anybody. I want to succeed and my coach also wants to succeed,” Haruna explained.

Bunmi, however, spelt out the minimum criteria for kids who aspire to make the U-17 national team, harping that their age is important.

“One criterion is that you must be under 17 years old; another one is that you must be talented.”

He also assured that the programme of the U-17 national will soon be announced by the Nigeria Football Federation after the Head Coach Manu Garba must have submitted it.
