Ahead of Akwa United’s CAF Confederations Cup 2nd leg final round clash against Sudanese league champions Al-Hilal, Coach Abdul Maikaba has said his team must play the underdog card and draw inspiration from last week’s UEFA Champions League game where Roma put up a scintillating performance to turn a first leg tie against FC Barcelona, reports.

Maikaba, who spoke to the media department of the club over the weekend, said he is confident Akwa United have what it takes to upturn the two-goal deficit suffered in Sudan, insisting they must be clinical in front of goal.

“In football, nothing is impossible. I don’t have to go too far back in history. Ask Barcelona, ask Real Madrid. On both occasions, the underdogs held sway.

“We respect the Sudanese, they were established over 88 years ago and are perennial CAF Champions League campaigners, yet in Uyo, we are sure they will meet their Waterloo,” Maikaba said.

The 2017 Aiteo Cup-winning coach further urged the Uyo fans to come all out and support their darling team to victory on Wednesday.

The return leg of the clash is slated for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Wednesday, with kickoff put at 4pm Nigerian time.
