*Hails Frenchman as a true legend
Former Super Eagles’ captain, Kanu Nwankwo and current Arsenal star, Alex Iwobi have both taken time to praise outgoing long-serving manager of Arsenal, Arsene Wenger who announced he will be retiring at the end of the season after spending 22 years, AOIFootball.com reports.
The Frenchman, who guided Arsenal to 7 FA Cup titles and three Premier League trophies, including becoming the first English side to go unbeaten, a team which featured Nigeria’s Kanu Nwankwo, is arguably the most successful manager in the Gunners’ history.
“Big shoes for anyone to fill; playing for Arsenal under Arsene was one of the best periods of my career- 2 Premiership, 2 FA Cups, The Invincibles, playing with some of the best-assembled players and influencing millions of fans in Africa to support this great club,” Kanu Nwankwo tweeted.
Also, current Gunner Alex Iwobi thanked Wenger for giving him the opportunity to be where he is today.
“For Everything, you’ve done for Arsenal Football Club. For trusting me as a teenager, giving me the opportunity to express myself and grow both as a footballer and as a person. I will forever be grateful to you, boss. Thank you so much,” Iwobi said.
