Super Eagles’ defender, Leon Balogun, has hailed his team’s resolute display after they stunned Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at the Signal Iduna Park on Saturday to ensure they remain in the German Bundesliga for another season, reports.

Balogun, who only returned from injury last week, watched from the stands as early strikes from Yoshinori Muto and Bote Nzuzu Baku ensured Mainz picked up all valuable three points to ensure their safety with one game left.

Balogun expressed his delight afterward via post on social media, with the results whilst thanking everyone who stood beside the club all through the season.

“What a way to be safe in the league. It was a hard season with a lot of ups and downs. This year definitely showed us that every single soul is needed to reach our goals. Congrats to the whole club @1fsvmainz05; the team, the staff, the employees, family & friends and of course the fans – thanks for suffering with and for us!

We made it,” Balogun said.

The win moves Mainz to 14th on the league table with 36 points from 33 games, 6 points ahead of 16th placed Wolfsburg who have 30 points from the same number of games played
