Super Eagles’ Head Coach Gernot Rohr has dropped the duo of defender Ola Aina and midfielder Mikel Agu from his final 23-man squad to World Cup in Russia, AOIFootball.com reports.
With Moses Simon ruled out of the Mundial through injury, the Franco-German was left with an uphill task to axe just two players and he dutifully dropped Aina and Agu from the World Cup party.
Agu is arguably the biggest surprise from the two players dropped, has always been a formidable backup to captain John Obi Mikel throughout the qualifying series.
Aina, on the other hand, made his debut in Nigeria’s 1-0 win at home to Zambia in November.
The squad, comprising 3 goalkeepers, 8 defenders, 6 midfielders and 6 attackers, will now fly to Austria for the Eagles’ last warm-up game against the Czech Republic on Wednesday.
Goalkeepers: Francis Uzoho, Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa.
