Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, is coy on his first choice goalkeeper for the team’s World Cup opener against Croatia, admitting that current number one Francis Uzoho could start on Saturday, AOIFootball.com reports.
The Franco-German said this shortly before his team’s departure to Russia from their training camp in Avita, Austria, insisting he was happy with the attitude of all three shot-stoppers as he wants to take pressure off anybody he decides to hand the number one jersey to.
”I could rely on him, but if I really can, you have to see. It’s going to put a lot of pressure on him, and if he really gets the number one, the last training days will determine.
“We have three good goalkeepers and the competition is open. At the moment, Francis is a bit ahead of the game,” Rohr said.
Uzoho, 19, has started every single of Nigeria’s matches since the beginning of 2018- against Poland, Serbia, DR Congo, England and the Czech Republic, and will most likely be Nigeria’s first choice goalkeeper in Russia when the tournament begins on Thursday.
