Former Super Eagles’ captain, Nwankwo Kanu, has pleaded with Nigerians to stop criticising the team as they bid to take the world by storm in Russia when the World cup begins on Thursday, AOIFootball.com reports.
The former African Footballer of the Year who is already in Russia to drum support for the Super Eagles further tasked the Gernot Rohr-led team to remain fearless and go for glory ahead of their opener against Croatia on Saturday in Kaliningrad.
“The Super Eagles our dear team; they are in Russia and the boys are ready to deliver. It’s all about belief; I believe, do you believe? Let’s all support, pray and give them all that will make them make us proud because they will. Thank God,” Kanu twitted.
Nigeria will be aiming to break the Round of 16 jinx at the World Cup, having been knocked out at this same stage in three of their five previous outings.
The team must however first navigate past Croatia, Iceland, and Argentina to keep that dream alive.
