The team touched down in Kaliningrad at around 8pm local time, just the same time the opening match at the World Cup was concluded with host nation Russia thumping Saudi Arabia, 5-0 in Moscow.

Similarly, the Eagles are also expected to have a feel of the 35,000 Kaliningrad stadium firsthand when they train on the pitch on Friday by 5pm, which will take place immediately after the team’s pre-match conference for the Croatia game.

Nigeria will step into the pitch against their star-studded hosts, hoping to earn their first opening game win in 20 years, with the win against Spain at France 1998 the last time the country won an opening world cup fixture.
