Following their disappointing 2-0 loss to Croatia in Saturday’s Group D opening fixture, the Super Eagles missed the chance of hitting a dollar jackpot as promised by the Nigeria Football Federation and one of their sponsors, AOIFootball.com reports.
Leading up to the game, the Mikel John Obi led Eagles were promised a whopping sum of $20,000 dollars each if they recorded a win over their Croatian counterparts. They also were promised $50,000 dollars for every goal scored by one of their biggest sponsors, Aiteo.
The Eagles looked ordinary before the likes of Ivan Rakitic and Luka Modric and were made to pay for their not so impressive display on the night inside the Kaliningrad Stadium.
The team, however, have a mountain to climb as they face a very organized Icelandic side on Wednesday the 22nd of June before taking on Argentina in their last group game of the tournament.
