*urges Rohr to select best XI for the match
Former Super Eagles’ star, Garba Lawal has urged the Super Eagles not be deterred after their 2-0 loss to Croatia in their opening group game of the world cup, insisting that they have no reason not to secure their first win against new boys Iceland on Friday, reports.
The former Eagles’ winger,  who spoke to,  said he believes the players and coaches have learnt from the last game and will work on their mistakes, even as he urged Gernot Rohr to select his best possible XI for the clash.
“Honestly, the game against Croatia was a disappointment but we have to move away from that. Now we play Iceland next and for me its a must-win game for the players. They have to pick themselves up and ensure they do everything possible to get all three points.
“The coach must also get his selection right; we do not have the luxury of time to keep trying payers in different positions. If he can put his best XI on the field, then I’m confident we can beat them to the three points,” Lawal said.
Nigeria is currently bottom of Group D with no points after one round of matches and will face Iceland in their second game on Friday knowing that a loss will all but end their dreams of making it through to the next round of the competition.
