Super Eagles’ striker, Odion Ighalo believes the team has learnt from their opening 2-0 loss in the hands of Croatia and that they are now ready to make Nigerians smile when they take on Iceland in a must-win game on Friday, reports.
The Changchun Yatai striker, who spoke to at the team’s base in Essentuki, said that the Eagles must now appear more physical and ruthless in front of goal to overcome their much more physical opponent.
“We did our best in our first game but it was not good enough; we worked hard as a team to try and win every match but unfortunately we lost and the whole team is not happy about the result and we will work hard ahead of our next game.
“We made some avoidable mistakes, especially with our set piece defending. We have looked at them and have learnt to correct them ahead of the Iceland game,” Ighalo said.
Despite being cut a frustrated figure upfront against Croatia, Ighalo believes he still has what it takes to fire Nigeria to victory and that they must begin to create more scoring chances and become more purposeful in the final third.
“In our first game we lacked a bit of aggressiveness; we need to be more ruthless and create more chances to ensure we come out with all three points,” Ighalo concluded.
