In St. Petersburg, Russia

Fans of Argentina have expressed fears over their important fixture against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, reports.

The Albicelestes have failed to win in their first two games of the Russia 2018 World Cup, playing a 1-1 Iceland losing 3-0 against Croatia and the fans dread their team could fall prey to the lurking Eagles.

Some distraught fans, who spoke to on arrival at St Petersburg ahead of the Tuesday showdown, stated that while the team is on a bad run, they still expect a phenomenal performance from their talisman, Lionel Messi.

One of the fans, who gave his name as Thiago, while accepting the quality of the Nigerian team, admitted that Argentina was having a bad time and could fall to the Eagles.

“Nigeria is actually a good team and we are in bad time. It’s very difficult but I think we can pass it,” Thiago said, adding that he never believed in Coach Jorge Sampaoli from the time of his appointment.

“I never believed in the coach from his first time. I didn’t think he could do it. But we are positive because we are Argentina.

“I’m confident. I know it is really difficult. We are playing bad but I know it is possible. I’m a Messi fan but I think he is not in-form but he is Messi and you never know. Remember he scored three in our last World Cup qualifier,” Thiago said.

On his part, another fan, 14-year-old Marcus, who is coming for his second World Cup, said he thinks Argentina will win.

“Yes, it is an important match and I think Argentina will win but I don’t like Messi” he concluded.

Embattled Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick against Ecuador in the World Cup qualifiers but is yet to score a goal at the World Cup, missing a penalty against Iceland.
