Super Eagles’ midfielder, Uche Agbo continued his fine start to the season as he helped Standard Liege to a come back 2-2 draw against Ajax Amsterdam in the first leg, final qualifiers of the UEFA Champions League, AOIFootball.com reports.
First-half strike from the duo of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Dusan Tadic put the away side ahead as Liege struggled to find their bearing in the first 45 minutes of the clash.
However, with defeat staring them in the face, the Belgian side rallied back after the hour mark with Agbo at the center of the come back when he turned provider for Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez to half the deficit before a late penalty from Renaud Edmond ensured Liege still remain with a glimmer of hope going into next week return leg in Holland.
Agbo who was on for the entire match duration had a game rating of 7.4, completing 93% of his passes, making 3 key passes, whilst also completing 100% of his dribbles and winning nine of his 19 duels contested.
Similarly, another Nigerian, Peter Olayinka came off the bench in the closing stages of his side 1-1 draw at home to Dynamo Kiev
The former Gent attacker who scored his first goal of the season over the weekend was named among the substitute for Slavia in their 1st leg, final round qualifiers.
With both sides failing to test themselves in the first half, the visitors broke the deadlock eight minutes from time when Benjamin Verbic expertly converted a cross from Sergey Sydorchuk to put Kyiv in the driving seat.
Olayinka was then introduced in the 86th minute for Jan Sykora to add more bite to the attack, a decision that did later prove vital as Praha were awarded a stoppage-time penalty which was neatly converted by Josep Husbauer as the game finished 1-1 on the night.
Both teams will clash in Ukraine next week to decide who makes it to the group stages of next seasons champions league.
