Super Eagles’ captain, Mikel John Obi has called for calm amidst suggestions he could seat out Nigeria’s must-win AFCON 2019 qualifier against Seychelles next month, insisting he will be fit and ready for the encounter.

The Tianjin midfielder who missed his side’s matchday 17 clash against Henan Jianye, told exclusively after the match that he’s already working towards getting back to match fitness.

“I’m getting better already and trying to get back into fitness before I start playing again; hopefully in a week or two, I will return to the field of play.

“For the game against Seychelles next month, I’m confident I will be fit before then but for now I just want to focus on getting back to full fitness,” Mikel added.

The news will come as a relief for Eagles’ boss Gernot Rohr who will be delighted to have his captain back as Nigeria gets set to reignite her 2019 AFCON qualifiers after losing its first match to South Africa in Uyo last year.
