Super Eagles’ defender, William Troost-Ekong started the season with a bang as he scored Bursaspor’s first goal of the new campaign in their slim 2-1 loss away to Fenerbahce, reports.

The 24-year-old defender, who recently became a father, gave his side the lead against the run of play after he threw himself to the ground to delightfully guide a header past the Fenerbahce goalkeeper after just sixteen minutes.

Their lead was however shortlived as two quick-fire goals from Giuliano (22) and Josef de Souza on the half-hour mark was all the home side needed to turn the table around, a lead they held on to till the blast of the final whistle.

With Shehu Abdullahi missing through injury, Ekong was ever present to stop a flurry of attacks. He was voted man of the match with a game rating of 7.9.

He was also impressed with his stats, making one clearance, 2 blocked shots, and 3 interceptions. He also completed 100% of is tackles, winning all but just one of his duels and completing 83% of his passes.
