Former U-17 Cup-winning captain, Kelechi Nwakali believes he is fully ready for a Super Eagles’ invitation with reports that Coach Gernot Rohr could hand the Porto star his first full international call-up for next month’s qualifiers against Seychelles, AOIFootball.com reports.
Nwakali impressed before the watchful eyes of Rohr in last May’s friendly loss against Atletico Madrid in Uyo, with the Franco-German seemingly interested in handing the young star a chance.
Nwakali, who moved to FC Porto from Arsenal on loan, told AOIFootball.com that he is always ready to give his best if handed a call-up to the national team.
“Playing for the Super Eagles has always been my dream. I can say I have developed through the ranks, playing at both the U-17 and 20 levels and if the coach feels I can add something to the senior team, then I will be glad to do so.
“Personally, I feel honoured to be considered worthy of a call up; it means a lot to me and I will continue to work hard on and off the pitch to make this dream a reality,” Nwakali said.
The Arsenal loanee was invaluable on his Eagles’ debut last May against a star-studded Atletico Madrid, scoring a fantastic curler from 35 yards out, leaving goalkeeper Oblak stranded in goal.
