Nigerian international Gabriel Okechukwu made an impressive start to life in Morocco, featuring for 90 minutes in Wydad Athletic Club’s 2-1 loss away at Olympic Safi at the weekend, AOIFootball.com reports.
The former Akwa United striker linked up well with compatriot Babatunde Michael in the clash and was heavily involved in the move that earned Wydad a consolation stoppage-time penalty.
Okechukwu, however, told AOIFootball.com after the clash that he was satisfied with his performance and believes his side will bounce back from the narrow defeat.
“It was a good game for me; the fans were impressed with our display, but unfortunately we lost the match. Hopefully, we will bounce back in our next game,” Okechukwu said.
Wydad will next face Algerian side ES Setif in the CAF Champions League quarterfinals first leg tie on Friday with Okechukwu ineligible for the clash following his earlier participation with Akwa United.
