Super Eagles and Chippa United goalkeeper, Daniel Appetite has said the team will ensure they get maximum points when they file out Tuesday night against Libya on matchday four of the qualification series, reports.
Akpeyi, who has been relegated to third choice in the squad, spoke to Grande Sports ahead of the clash, insisting that returning to the continental showpiece remains the team’s biggest motivation having missed out on the last two editions.
“Well, the only thing Nigerians should be expecting from us on Tuesday is all round victory again. It’s not going to come easy but everybody in the team knows what it actually means for the country to qualify for the Nations Cup next year.
“We started the qualification series badly against South Africa last year but we are beginning to pick the points gradually and hopefully we will do so again tomorrow,” Akpeyi said.
The Eagles shot-stopper further went on to reveal his support for current first choice goalie Francis Uzoho, insisting he will wait for his time to man the post again.
“The goalkeeping position is meant for only one person to be in at a particular game and so far, the coach has made the choice of Uzoho to be in goal. The only thing I can do is to support him and hope for when I will be given the chance again,” Akpeyi concluded.
Akpeyi was in goal for Nigeria on matchday one of the qualification series against South Africa in Uyo, but lost his place after series of unconvincing displays, particularly against Argentina last November.
