Mikel John Obi has been consistent for years
In a bid to be fully fit for Nigeria’s upcoming 2019 AFCON qualifier against South Africa in Johannesburg, Super Eagles’ skipper, Mikel John Obi featured for the entire match duration as Tianjin Teda went down 2-0 away at Shandong Luneng, reports.
The Eagles’ captain started his 17 league match of the season as goals from former Southampton star Graziano Pelle and Roge Guedes ensured Teda remained without a win in 9 consecutive matches.
Mikel did, however, have an above average rating of 5.9, completing 81% of his passes, 100% of his dribbles and winning just 2 of his 11 duels contested. He was however sloppy in possession as he was dispossessed 5 times, whilst also making two clearances in the clash.
Similarly, in-form striker Odion Jude Ighalo was surprisingly omitted from Changchun Yatai’s matchday squad as they were forced to a 1-1 draw away at Beijing Sinobo.
Ighalo has scored 8 goals in his last four appearances for club and country and remains Changchun Yatai hitman having scored 48% of their league goals this term (20 of 42).
The striker will, however, be available for their next clash at home to Chongqing SWM as he bids to break a personal record of 20 goals scored in a single league season.
