Super Eagles striker, Odion Jude Ighalo continued his fantastic form in front of goal as he set a personal season best of 21 goals, scoring Changchun’s only goal in their 2-1 loss at home to Chongqing SWM, reports.
The Changchun captain returned from suspension to start his 26th league game of the campaign but it was the visitors who drew first blood when Fernandinho set up Jin Feng to put them ahead after 11 minute.
One soon became two when Alan Kardec doubled Chongqing’s lead, eight minutes after the hour mark with Yatai struggling to get their hold on the game despite dominating possession.
Ighalo, however, halved the deficit two minutes from time as he converted from a Li Zhang assist to make it 2-1, with the goal not enough to inspire a comeback with Yatai slipping to their third defeat in five outings.
Ighalo has now overtaken his previous best season mark of 20 goals achieved in the 2014/2015 championship season with Watford, with the Nigerian just two goals shy of the golden boot with just three games to the end of the Chinese season.
Despite the loss, Ighalo still managed to post an impressive outing, earning a game rating of 7.5, completing 88.2% of his passes and winning four of his six duels contested.
