Former Germany U-20 captain, Kelvin Akpoguma has revealed he will only consider playing for Nigeria if the door of the German national team closes on him, saying he will be proud to wear the green an white of Nigeria, reports.
The 23-year-old centre back, who has been linked with the Eagles in the past, told OMA Sports TV in an interview that he will continue to keep his options open before finally committing to Nigeria or Germany.
“I have it in my mind; the thing is that I was born in Germany and played all the youth teams of Germany and I’m still a young player. So, I will try to leave the door open for both ways because, if Germany stops calling then I will play for Nigeria.
“If I have no option again to play for Germany, then it will be an honour to play for Nigeria because my daddy is a Nigerian so I just want to keep my doors open to both ways,” Akpoguma revealed.
Akpoguma captained Germany to the FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand in 2015, defeating Nigeria 1-0 in the round of 16 before bowing out of the competition in the quarterfinals.
