Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr has handed in-form Enyimba of Aba shot-stopper, Theophilus Afelokhai a late call-up ahead of the team’s upcoming matches against South Africa and Uganda, AOIFootball.com reports.
The former Kano Pillars goalie replaces the injured Francis Uzoho who pulled out of the squad after being sidelined for the next four weeks following a rib injury he sustained whilst playing for Elche over the weekend.
Afelokhai is expected to compete with CHAN Eagles’ captain and Enyimba teammate Ikechukwu Ezenwa, and Chippa United of South Africa goalie, Daniel Akpeyi for who would start for the Eagles in Johannesburg.
Meanwhile, AOIFootball.com investigation reveals that despite just receiving his first call-up under Gernot Rohr, Afelokhai could start in goal ahead of Ezenwa following his superb performance during Enyimba’s CAF Confederation Cup run.
With Akpeyi’s show of low confidence, it looks like a straight fight between Ezenwa and Afelokhai for who gets the nod against the Bafana Bafana in Soweto on November 17.
