Super Eagles’ striker, Odion Ighalo has been ruled out for the rest of the season following the hamstring injury he picked up on Wednesday afternoon in Changchun Yatai’s 2-2 draw at home to Tianjin Quanjian, AOIFootball.com can confirm.
The Changchun captain was taken off after 17 minutes after sustaining an injury that will rule him out for the last game of the season and Nigeria’s upcoming matches against South Africa and Uganda.
Ighalo has since been replaced by Henry Onyekuru for the Eagles’ upcoming clashes and will now be out for five weeks ending his hope of finishing as the top scorer in the Chinese Super League this season.
The former Watford striker told AOIFootball.com afterwards that he was sad about the development but promises to return even stronger.
“Obviously sad about the injury, but it is part of the game so I have to move on. The season has been great for me and I will just take my time and recover fully from the injury,” Ighalo said.
Ighalo, 29, has been in imperial form this season in the CSL, netting 21 goals in 28 league matches and has also scored six goals in his last three outings for the national team, including a hat-trick against Libya in Uyo.
