Super Eagles’ Coach, Gernot Rohr believes his team has a chance of winning the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations but he does not want to put pressure on his young squad ahead of the competition to be hosted by Cameroon next year, reports.

The Franco-German returned Nigeria to the continental stage with a game to spare after missing out on the last two editions. He, however, admits that the team will do better than their World Cup performance in Russia.

“I believe we have a chance but I will not say we will win the AFCON. I said only that we have a bigger chance to win the AFCON than the world cup because you have only African countries and don’t have Argentina and the rest of the big countries.

“I think we have the chance because we have a young team which can improve and if we have a good preparation and hope that we have fit players and don’t miss our key players then we can have a good chance in Cameroon,” Rohr concluded.

Nigeria qualified for the 2019 Nations Cup with a game to spare after playing out a 1-1 draw in Johannesburg against South Africa, a result that guarantees the team qualification having picked up 10 points from a possible 15.

The Eagles will, however, face Seychelles in a dead rubber match next year to ensure they top the group ahead of South Africa and Libya which squaring up to see who picks the second qualification ticket in Group E.
