Days after reports broke out that Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr is still keeping tabs on 19-year-old Fortuna Düsseldorf goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, with a view to inviting him, he has come out to reveal he will be delighted to play for Nigeria, reports.
Okoye, 19, plays in the Regionaliga West with Düsseldorf II and he told exclusively that he feels more confident now and can handle the pressure of playing for the Super Eagles.
“Yes, I hope so. I feel so confident right now and I‘m getting better by the day. I hope that I get the chance cause I know I will take it and could help the Super Eagles in my own little way.
“Every player dreams of playing for their national team and if I get invited to the team it will be a huge step in my career and a proud moment for me,” Okoye added.
The German-born shot stopper further gave insights on his performance this season with Düsseldorf, highlighting how he has grown in confidence from training with the first team.
“Its been a good season so far. Yes, I played five straight games with the second team and won every game with two clean sheets and the practice with the first team helps me build more confidence,” Okoye concluded.
Born to a Nigerian father and a German mother, the Okoye is eligible to play for Nigeria and could get a call-up to the national team for the March dead rubber qualifier against Seychelles.
