Super Eagles’ starlet, Samuel Chukwueze scored his fifth goal of the season to help set new Coach Luis Garcia on a winning note as they defeated Spartak Moscow 2-0 to progress to the Round of 32 of the Europa League, reports.
The 19-year-old retained his place in the starting line up from the right-hand side of a more changed 4-4-2 formation with new boss Luis Garcia opting to go for a more direct style of approach.
It took Chukwueze just eleven minutes to show his new boss what to expect from him when the Nigerian drifting past his marker before unleashing a powerful low shot with his left foot to give the Yellow Submarines the lead.
Karl Toko Ekambi then doubled Villarreal’s lead three minutes after the break before Chukwueze was withdrawn for birthday boy Santi Carzola for the remaining 10 minutes of the clash and Villarreal held on to all three points.
Chukwueze was adjudged man of the match with a game rating of 8.0, completing 84% of his passes, making 4 key passes and also winning three of his duels contested.
The win seals Villarreal’s progress to the knockout stages with 10 points from six games played and are being joined in the next round by Rapid Wien who defeated Rangers 1-0 to finish second but level on points with Villarreal.
