NPFL side, Lobi Stars produced an inspiring second-half display when Sikiru Alimi scored a brace as they edged out Kenyan Champion’s Gor Mahia 2-0 to qualify 3-3 on away goals rule, AOIFootball.com reports.
Playing in their now adopted ground in Enugu, the Markurdi- based side dominated the contest from the blast of the whistle but found scoring chances minimal in the first 45 minutes.
With the game quickly slipping from their hands, the Nigerian side opened the scoring in the 70th minute via the boot of Alimi much to the joy of the entire fans.
Gor Mahia were already dreaming of a place in the group stages but Alimi was again on hand to give Lobi the much needed second goal three minutes from time to hand Lobi their first appearance on the Group stages of the CAF Champions League.
Solomon Ogbeide’s men will now look to become the second Nigerian club after Enyimba to win the CAF Champions League when hostilities in the group stages begin next year.
