Super Eagles’ midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi could be out for the rest of the season after the player suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon which could jeopardize his chances next year’s AFCON, AOIFootball.com reports.
The Trabzonspor player was taken off after the half-hour mark in their 4-1 bashing of Caykur Rizespor and later scan showed the extent of the injury.
Onazi is howver due for surgery on Monday and will have to see whether he still has any chance of featuring this season with the injury coming at a very bad timing for both the player and the club.
“Çaykur Rizespor injured our football player Ogenyi Onazii, as a result of MRI, he was diagnosed with Achilles Rupture (rupture). His surgery is planned for tomorrow in Istanbul,” the Turkish club posted on its website.
However, the BBC reported that Trabzonspor President already cast doubts over the player’s availability this season following what he described as an unfortunate injury.
“Unfortunately Onazi suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon. His season may well be over,” said Ağaoğlu.
The 25-year-old has been awesome this season for Trabzonspor, featuring in 15 matches and scoring twice whilst also adding two assists to his name.
