Chico Ofoedu scored his third goal of the season for Maccabi Tel Aviv as they emerged winter champions in the Israeli League after a 3-0 thrashing of Hapoel Be’er Sheva who had another Nigerian, John Ogu on the field, reports.
Unbeaten in their previous 14 league outings this campaign, the home side took the lead way into the first half when Chico Ofoedu fired them in front a lead they held on going into the break.
With Be’er Sheva knowing that a defeat could end their hopes of retaining their title, the hosts doubled their lead few minutes into the second half via the boots of Enric Saborit before Avi Rikan ensured the match was beyond Ogu and his team when he netted Maccabi’s third 20 minutes from time.
With the results, Maccabi Tel Aviv have now opened a 17 points lead on third place Hapoel Be’er Sheva after just 15  games and the league title is looking more likely to head back to Tel Aviv for the first time in four years.
