Former Akwa United forward, Okechukwu Gabriel could be on his way out of Wydad Athletic Club this winter after reports reveal that the player has struggled to impress in his first few months at the club, reports.
The CHAN 2018 star joined the Moroccan club last summer but has struggled to get into the first team and his agent is now looking for the possibility of seeking a loan move for the forward.
According to Wydad-based reporter, Ashrof, who gave a clear picture of things about the player, the return of Coach Benzarti further jeopardized his chances with the club as Benzarti initially didn’t support the player’s signing last year.
“He still has about three seasons and a half to go on his contract with the club. The coach has said that he won’t be relying on him for the rest of the season so his agent is shopping him around, trying to find him a six-month loan deal. I have heard there are contacts with CRB (Belouizdad) in Algeria but nothing is confirmed yet.
“Gabriel struggled under Benzarti in the summer with the coach not wanting him, but Benzarti left and went to coach Tunisia. Now he is back with the club so we are back to square one where Gabriel will obviously not be used,” Ashrof revealed.
Okechukwu was one of the star players for the CHAN Eagles in Morocco last year when they finished second in the tournament.
The forward also had a stint with the Super Eagles before moving to Wydad Athletic.
