Super Eagles’ winger, Samuel Kalu was the match hero for Bordeaux as they reached the semifinals of the French League Cup after edging out Ligue 2 side Le Havre 1-0 in the quarterfinals, reports.
In a meeting that saw both sides go head to head for the second time in just five days, Bordeaux was looking to avenge Saturday’s surprise cup defeat in the hands of their visitors.
The first half did, however, produce a rather drab atmosphere as both teams failed to create plenty off opening with Kalu and Roman Basque ensuring both teams went into the break level on scores and yellow card received.
However the games turning point came 20 minutes from time when the impressive Kalu received a pass on the left flank from Jimy Briand, and the Nigerian brilliantly created an opening for himself before unleashing an absolute cracker from the edge of the box and into the net to send the fans at the Matmul Atlantique into a frenzy.
1-0 it ended after 90 minutes with Kalu ensuring Bordeaux edged closer to their fourth league cup success and their first since 2008.
They will now wait for Thursday’s draw to determine who they will face in the semifinals with the likes of Monaco, Strasbourg, and Guingamp that shocked PSG at their own backyard the other semifinalists.
