Gabriel Okechukwu will have to work even harder ahead of the second stanza of the Moroccan league after seeing his proposed moved to fellow Moroccan club Rapide Ouez Zem botched at the last minute, reports.
The former Akwa United player was unveiled on Tuesday by his new club but after Wydad failed to bring in a replacement at the end of the transfer window, the club decided to call off the deal and have him return to feature till the end of the season.
The player, however, told afterward that he will now work harder to ensure he gets into the team after getting assurances from the club’s president on his return.
“I already met with the president of the club and he has given me assurances on my future with the club. The deal to Rapide was already done but he said I was needed here and will not be allowed to go on loan.
“So for me, I have to just move on and ensure I do well in training and hope that my performance convinces the coaches ahead of the second stanza,” Okechukwu explained.
Wydad is currently top of the Moroccan League after the first round and is also top of their Champions League group.
The Moroccan outfit head to South Africa this weekend to take on Mamelodi Sundowns in their second group game.
