Match Day 3 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) saw Heartland of Owerri shock Nasarawa United in their own backyard at the Lafia City Stadium to earn their first win of the season, reports.
It was also a good outing for Abdul Maikaba as he picked his first win of the season for Plateau United as they defeated El-Kanemi 2-0 in their newly adopted ground as Bendel Insurance also began life in the top flight with an away point in Sagamu.
In the first match of the day 2017, NPFL champions Plateau United earned their first win of the season as the defeated visiting El-Kanemi Worriers 2-0 at the Kwara Sports Complex in Ilorin.
Goals from Saheed Jibrin and Bernard Ovoke ensured the former champions eased the pressure on new manager Abdul Maikaba after three outings in the league.
Still, at the Kwara Sports Complex, two-time CAF champions Enyimba were the guest of Kwara United as the Harmony Boys were hoping to correct last Sunday’s 1-1 home draw against Sunshine Stars.
Mustapha Ibrahim put the Aba side in front in the 16th minute but Kwara United talisman, Segun Alebiosu evened scores in the 32nd minute.
Joseph Osadiaye scored from the penalty spot in the 55th minute to put Enyimba back in front but Alebiosu once again drew level for the llorin side in the 60th minute before Usman Mohammed scored the winner for Kwara United in the 76th minute to give them their first home win of the season.
In Lafia, Heartland produced the finest result and the only away win of the week as they defeated Nasarawa United by a lone goal to put more pressure on new coach Bala Nikiyu.
Seventeen-year-old prodigy, Samuel Nnoshiri produced a stunning goal in the 16th minute to secure the vital three points for the Naze Millionaires.
Elsewhere, Wikki Tourists edged visiting side, Niger Tornadoes 2-1 in the match decided in Bauchi.
Ahmad Aminu scored the opening goal for the Bauchi Elephants in the 47th minute before Umar Abba grabbed the all-important second five minutes from time, but the visitors got a consolation from the boots of Sarki Ismaila.
Top-flight newcomers, Remo Stars, and Bendel Insurance shared the spoils with one goal apiece at the Gateway Stadium in Sagamu.
Insurance took the lead in the 53rd minute through Charles Omokaro while the Sky Blue Stars equalized through talismanic skipper  Victor Mbaoma.
In Omoku, Go Round FC played a goalless draw against visitors, FC Ifeanyi Ubah at the Krisdera Hotels Stadium.
In Kano, Four-time champions, Kano Pillars drew 1-1 against visiting side, Akwa United at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, as the Promise Keepers made amends for their shocking home loss last weekend at home to El-Kanemi Warriors.
The Promise Keepers talisman, Ndifreke Effiong put the Uyo side in front in the 20th minute and Chris Madaki grabbed the equaliser for the Pyramid City side in the 40th minute.
Another battle of newcomers in Kaduna ended in favour of the hosts, Kada City as they defeated Gombe United 2-1.
Umar Mohammed scored the opener for the Kaduna side in the 19th minute while Ibrahim Enesi drew level for the Gombe landlords in the 21st minute before  Sadiq Suleiman grabbed the winner in the 23rd minute to give the Kaduna side their first win of the ongoing elite league.
