Super Eagles’ captain, Mikel John Obi is set for a return to English football with the former Chelsea midfielder close to joining Premier League hopefuls Middlesbrough in the next few hours, reports.
Mikel has been on the radar of several European big weights like Roma and Wolfsburg after his stay with Chinese club Tianjin Teda but it seems a reunion with his family has now given the championship side pole position to land the midfielder.
According to reports in the British media, the 31-year-old has already agreed on personal terms at the Riverside and is said to be already having his medicals at the club on Tuesday afternoon after he arrived from the north-east.
Mikel will be part of a Tony Pulis side looking to bring Premier League football back to the Riverside next season with Boro currently sitting fifth in the Championship table and seven points off leaders Leeds.
The Nigerian won two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the League Cup during his 11-year spell at Chelsea.
He also achieved success in European competitions with the Blues as he won both the Champions League and Europa League during his time in England.
