Nigeria’s Kelechi Nwakali has praised the Flying  Eagles wonderful start at the ongoing AFCON U-20 championship in Niger, after they defeated Burundi 2-0 to top Group A, reports.
The former Flying Eagles player, who was impressed with the team’s overall performance, told exclusively from his base in Portugal shortly after the match, that he was satisfied with the result and wants the squad to clinch the World Cup ticket when they file out in their next game against South Africa on Tuesday.
“I must say congratulations to the team and indeed the whole country. It was a well-deserved victory as the boys played well and took their chances when it mattered the most. Even though they could have scored more, what is most important is the three points that they got.
“Now they must shift their attention to the game against South Africa, it won’t be an easy one but I’m confident with what I saw today, the boys will win and pick the world cup ticket with a game to spare,” Nwakali said.
Second half strikes from the impressive Yahaya Nazifi and substitute Maxwell Effion, ensured the Paul Aigbogun-led boys top Group A with three points, two above of South Africa and Niger who both played out a 1-1 draw in their opening game.
The Flying Eagles will next face their South African counterparts on Tuesday, having in mind that a win will seal their place at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland later in the year.
