Aiteo Cup champions, Enugu Rangers continued their unbeaten run in this season CAF Confederations Cup after they forced Tunisian side CS Sfaxien to a 1-1 draw at the Stade Taleb Mhiri in Sfax, AOIFootball.com reports.
Having defeated Burkina Faso’s Salitas in their first game at the Cathedral 10 days ago, the Flying Antelopes came into the clash unbeaten from their last seven outings in the competition and were the better side in the opening exchanges.
The visitors did, however, try to create chances of their own in the first 45 minutes, but the Enugu boys were resolute in their defence ad both teams went into the break goalless.
The hosts made two quick substitutes after the hour mark, bringing on Walid Karoui and Mohammed Ali Moncer as they searched for the first goal in the encounter.
They were however ahead five minutes later when Alaeddine Marzouki breached the Rangers’ line to make it 1-0, but the lead lasted just 90 seconds before Papa Ousmane Sane equalized for the Flying Antelopes much to the joy of the visiting bench.
In a bid to preserve parity, the Nigerian side brought on Ibrahim Ajani and Ifeanyi George to beef up the midfield as Rangers snatched another impressive point on their second visit to Sfax having also drawn goalless in their last visit in 2003.
Rangers now top the group with a goal difference as they are level on four points with Sfaxien whilst Salitas and ES Sahel both have one point each.
They will, however, return to Tunisia in 10 days time to take on ES Sahel on matchday 3 of the group stages.
