CAFCL: Lobi Stars not giving up on qualification, says Mike Idoko
Chairman of NPFL side, Lobi Stars has said the club remains in a very strong position to qualify to the next round of the CAF Champions League despite sitting bottom of Group A with four points from four games, reports.
The seasoned sports administrator, who spoke to in Abuja, was upbeat the club will fight to the end and ensure they fly the flag of the country high on the continent.
“It’s our desire to progress past this round and we won’t give up till the final whistle because the group is still open.
“When we lost at home to Wydad Athletic Club in Enugu, many people wrote us off, nobody expected us to go away to Rabat and pick a point but eventually we went there and picked a valuable draw,” Idoko said.
He further appealed to CAF to provide a level playing filed for all opponents irrespective of the venue or club side involved.
“The first leg officiating in Enugu was a bit suspicious because there was no level playing field for both teams to properly express themselves. In the second leg, it was much better and we showed them what we have with the draw. Wydad were just lucky in Enugu because we played a far better side in Sundowns and we defeated them in Enugu,” Idoko added.
He further said that he hopes the club will be able to return to their home ground ahead of their final home game as they have had to acquire more expenses playing at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu.
The Pride of Benue is currently placed 4th on the log with four points from their opening four games, three points of joint leaders Wydad and Sundowns and they next face the South Africans in a match that will decide if they will progress or exit the competition.
