Head Coach of the country’s U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets, Manu Garba has said he will use next month’s invitational tournament in Turkey to strengthen his squad ahead of their return tie AFCON U-17 championship slated for Tanzania, reports.
The two- time cadet World Cup winner told in Abuja during their training session that he remains committed to ensuring they produce a squad that will make the country proud.
“So far so good, we have been in camp for nine days. We have the bulk of the squad that qualified us for the AFCON and we also invited a few players to help stiffen competition for places.
“I won’t say we have a team yet because we have to fortify some key positions. We also have some players on grade 5 of the MRI test and so should in case they don’t make it we will have quality replacements on the ground,” Garba said.
He, however, added that the coaches are very satisfied and impressed with what they have seen of the boys and would select the best legs to lead the nation in Tanzania.
The Golden Eaglets will depart for Turkey on March 1st ahead of their opening match three days later as the competition runs from the 1st to 10th of March 2019.
Having won the WAFU Zone A qualifiers, the Manu Garba-led boys were drawn in Group A of the U-17 AFCON alongside host Tanzania, Angola and Uganda, with the four semi-finalists going on to represent the continent at the world cup later in the year.
