Super Eagles youngster, Samuel Chukwueze came off the bench to score his third league goal of the season to help Villarreal record their fifth league win of the season against Levante which had Moses Simon on from start to finish.
The 19-year-old started on the bench for the sixth consecutive league as Villarreal hoped to build on their impressive Europa league outing having defeated Benfica away from home last Thursday.
With both teams failing to carve open any meaningful opportunity, the pacey winger was introduced after the hour mark Gerard Moreno to try and unlock the Levante defense with his quick feet.
Chukwueze’s introduction did prove the turning point in the match as he offered Santi Carzola more freedom to operate as the hosts took the lead three minutes into added time when Rober Pier put through his own goal.
Chukwueze was however not to be denied a chance to score one of the goals of the week contender as he received a pass on the edge of the box from Santi Carzola before curling a superb effort with his left foot which flew past the goalkeeper to send the Villarreal bench into ecstasy.
The goal will most definitely offer head coach Calleja a rethink as regards bringing the Nigerian back into his starting XI as they hope to completely escape the drop.
The win lifts Villarreal to 17th position with 26 points, one point above 18th placed Celta Vigo who occupy the last relegation spot.
