Super Eagles forward, Henry Onyekuru completed a perfect weekend for Nigerian players across the globe as he scored twice to help champions Galatasaray close the gap on runaway leaders Istanbul Basaksehir after demolishing Antalyaspor 5-0 at home, reports.
After Basaksehir won on Sunday evening, Galatasaray was also motivated to win and they showed their intent from the blast of the whistle and took a deserved first-half lead when League’s top scorer Mbaye Diagne fed Sofiane Feghouli to put the host 1-0 up.
Onyekuru then got in on the act five minutes after the hour mark with his 10th league goal of the campaign to put his side 2-0 up before Badou Ndaiye made it 3-0 three minutes later as the goals began to pour in.
Onyekuru then completed his brace 12 minutes from time when he lashed on to a pass from Sofiane Feghouli to make it 4-0 before Mbaye Diagne wrapped up the victory deep into added time to give the hosts a resounding 5-0 win.
The win keeps Galatasaray second with 49 points from 25 games but they remain a distant 8 points behind runaway leaders Basaksehir who look increasingly likely to claim a historic league win.
With his 11 strikes so far in the league, the Everton loanee jumps to 4th on the scorers’ chart, one behind the duo of Hugo Rodallega and Papis Demba Cisse whilst teammate Mbaye Diagne remains the overall leader with 22 goals.
