Former Dream Team XI captain, Azubuike Okechukwu is glad to have been called up for by the Olympic team ahead of next weekend AFCON U-23 qualifiers against Libya, reports.
The on- loan Caykur Rizespor midfielder, who has been in superb form for the Turkish club since joining in the winter, told exclusively from his base in Turkey that, the opportunity to wear the green and white jersey will always be a privilege for him.
“I’m happy to be back playing for the country again, it shows that I’m working hard. For me it’s always a great privilege to serve my fatherland,” Azubuike stated.
The 21-year-old captained Nigeria to her maiden CAF U-23 championship two years ago and was also an integral part of the Dream Team, forming a dynamic partnership in the midfield with Mikel Obi and Oghenekaro Etebo when they clinched a bronze medal for the country at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
His invitation for the U-23 side could offer him another chance to impress Coach Gernot Rohr who will be present at the stadium when the team hosts Libya in the return leg in Asaba on March 25.
Having been drawn bye for the first round, the Dream Team VII engage Libya in a double header qualifier next week with the winner over both ties progressing to the final qualification round which will hold in July.
