Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen was in imperious form as he grabbed a hat-trick to send Nigeria through to the final qualifying rounds of the AFCON U-23 Championship as they trashed Libya 4-0 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba to progress on a 4-2 aggregate scoreline, reports.
Having lost the first leg 2-0 in Tunis, Head Coach Imama Amapakabo made five changes to his starting line up, with Victor Osimhen, Chidozie Awaziem, Valentine Ozornwafor, Francis Uzoho, and Etboy all coming in as the team went all out to attack.
Nigeria were asking all the questions in the opening exchanges and was unlucky not to go ahead after nine minutes when Osimhen fired straight into the hands of the Libyan goalkeeper.
The Dream Team were at it again five minutes later when Awoniyi missed a golden chance after firing wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.
The pressure continued as Nwakali hit the bar with an amazing free kick after 18 before Osimhen and Orji also missing chances as the pressure kept on pilling on the visitors.
The breakthrough did, however, come on the half-hour mark when the impressive Osimhen pounced on a loose ball to put the Dream Team one goal up before Chukwueze hit the bar from another free-kick as Nigeria went into the break 1-0 up.
Still, behind on aggregate, the Dream Team continued to pile the pressure on the visitors with the impressive Nwakali narrowly firing wide with the Libyans escaping on that occasion.
After a series of sustained pressure, Nigeria got the second goal when Osimhen again displayed his sharpness in front of goal to pounce on a loose ball from the Libyan goalkeeper to tap home for 2-0.
With the tie balanced on aggregate Coach Imama introduced Okereke for Awoniyi but it was Osimhen who ensured he will dominate the headlines in major dailies when he fired off a delightful through ball from Kelechi Nwakali to send the stadium into ecstasy.
Substitute Okereke then added the icing on the cake when he made it 4-0 on the dot of 90 minutes after firing home from a back heel from Osimhen as the Dream Team ran out 4-2 aggregate winners.
