Super Eagles right-back Shehu Abdullahi, has hailed his team’s hard-fought 1-0 win over the Pharaohs of Egypt, saying it was a good omen as the team steps up preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, AOIFootball.com reports.
The versatile defender, who missed November round of matches due to injury, returned in the 3-1 win against Seychelles and was also rock solid at the back against the Egyptians before being replaced during the closing stages by Akwa United’s Ndifreke Effiong.
He however praised the passion and commitment among the team, whilst also giving special praises to the Asaba fans as the Eagles wrapped up the last international break of the season on a winning note.
“Tough pre-AFCON test game against Egypt; exciting for us to end the international break with a win in front of our home fans in Asaba. We’ll be ready to compete for honours in AFCON. I love the passion. Thanks for all the amazing support,” Abdullahi concluded.
His next target will now be to help his Turkish club Bursaspor escape the drop as they are just one point above the relegation zone with 8 games left to end the season.
