Nigerian striker, Simy Nwankwo scored twice to lift Crotone out of relegation for the first time in five months as they defeated Carpi 2-1 at the Stadio Sandro Cabassi, AOIFootball.com reports.
Having been urged to sort out his club situation by Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, the 26-year-old started his 15th league game of the campaign as the visitors went in search of their seventh victory of the season.
The Nigerian, however, did not disappoint as he put the Visitors ahead after 19 minutes when he converted from 12 yards to record his 10th league goal of the campaign.
The Nigerian then made it 2-0 four minutes after the hour mark after finishing off an assist from Niccolo Zanellato to send the away fans into ecstasy.
Fabrizio Poli then set up a nervy finish when he pulled one back four minutes later but it was Crotone who held on for all three points as they climb out of the relegation zone for the first time this year.
With his brace, Simy has now been involved in 40% of all Crotone’s league goal this season, with the club now moving up to 14 with 30 points from 29 games.
