Nigerian international, Sylvester Igbonu was the hero for the second consecutive week for Russian club UFA as he scored the only goal to end their four- month wait for a league win against FK Rostov, reports.
Without a league victory since November, the home fans were out in their numbers at the Neftyanik Stadium in UFA to cheer their team, drawing plenty of confidence from last week’s draw away at CSKA Moscow.
After a cagey opening 20 minutes, Igbonu broke the deadlock on the 25th minute when his lowly placed shot was mishandled by the Rostov goalkeeper allowing the ball to slip into the back of the net for 1-0.
The goal, however, brought the best out of the visitors but their efforts were subdued by a resolute UFA defence who held on for their first three points in eight outings.
The strike was Igbonu’s sixth of the campaign whilst the win moves UFA out of the relegation zone to 14th on the log with 20 points from 22 games.
